What to expect: Located on the lagoon in which there is no swimming (signs warn of the presence of crocodiles, though the creatures are seldom seen), the Clipper Club has no beach. All beaches in Mexico are public, however, so guests need only hop on a public bus to reach all of Cancún Island's 14 miles of white sand. Some beaches are within 5-to-15-minute walks of the hotel. Budget-minded guests choose the Clipper Club for its moderate prices, its peace-and-quiet, and its central location for walking-distance access to Cancún Island's shopping, dining, and entertainment centers. Amenity highlights: The hotel's large, lagoon-style pool consists of two teardrop-shape ends connected by a channel. Surrounding the pool and an adjacent children's pool is a terra-cotta-colored sundeck. Next to the deck are two thatch-roof palapas, each shading two hammocks. Insider tip: Along the lagoon and running in back of the hotel is a red brick path used by morning joggers.
