What to expect: All-day, all-evening activities orchestrated by the hotel's entertainment staff, unlimited food and drink, and moderate prices attract guests to the Sunset Lagoon. Every evening, the staff presents a show in an open-air theater, and once or twice a week, the show is preceded by a theme buffet dinner. During the day, the staff leads activities such as water aerobics, kayak tours of the lagoon, beach soccer, bingo, and dance lessons. A Kids Club has its own set of activities, including face-painting and ice-cream-eating contests. After dinner there are nightly group visits to a Cancún nightclub. Amenity highlights: Located on a lagoon in which there is no swimming because of the presence of crocodiles?though the creatures are rare and seldom seen?the hotel has no beach. For water activity, there's a large, two-level pool with a 30-foot water slide and a children's pool at one end. For conviviality, there are two good-sized, aboveground hot tubs?one secluded and the other near the hotel's marina. For sunning, three areas of white sand furnished with padded lounge chairs and interspersed with thatch-roof palapas, palm trees, and patches of thick grass stretch along the lagoonfront. For snoozing, there are two shaded hammocks. Insider tip: As part of the All-Inclusive Plan, guests are also entitled to dine and drink at the Sunset Lagoon's sister hotel, the Royal Sunset, attend the Royal Sunset's nightly shows, and participate in activities there. The Royal Sunset is located on a white-sand Caribbean beach about 2.5 miles away, with complimentary shuttle service between the hotels.
